E Allen Hensley Professional Development Scholarship for Teachers

Co-chairman: Diane Meier, Donna Schmidt, and Brenda Scheidler

Mr. Hensley was a long time Central Speech Teacher. He also coached the debate team. He began teaching at Central in 1935 and retired from Central in 1973. He continued to give to education after his death. He left money to the Evansville Retired Teachers' Association for scholarships. The scholarship committee decided to award some of the money to our current scholarship fund for students studying to become teachers and to award the remaining endowment resources to establish Professional Development Scholarships for teachers.

The Board of Directors of the Evansville Retired Teachers Association will decide the winners.

The scholarships will be given for study or travel which enhances professional development for teachers. The committee wished to place a few restrictions on teacher ideas; however, it will choose those proposals which offer maximum opportunities for teachers to continue their professional education. The EVSC Officials have informed us that the planned study or travel must occur outside the school day and year, unless prior EVSC Administration and Board approval is obtained.

All educators who are currently employed by the EVSC and have at least three years of continuous employment in the EVSC are eligible.

Applications must be postmarked by January 16. They should be mailed to:
